ESA Eastern Tri-Series Oxford vs London 2017
With London Captain Cowie, away visiting Family, former captain J Elliott-Bowman stepped in to lead the team at a tough away fixture to Oxford with many of London's regular unavailable for selection. J Elliott-Bowman was left relying on two new players to show their devotion to the capital side. One bonus and easy selection choice was the returning full back Wink who supported a strong London defence and their keeper Varcoe. The game started well for Oxford with some go forward but up against Tarbat pace in midfield Oxford began to allow the London forwards too much time. London newbie Anderson scored a well worked goal, which proved to be the first of a brace. Shortly before half-time Colin put another past Sparrow playing in goal due to the unavailability of Fromfleet, Oxford’s regular keeper.
After half time, it was a bit tighter but a defensive lapse by Jo Claridge (for shame) put the result beyond doubt as Anderson bagged a second in what was a great debut for the newbie. Some good touches from Oxford players, together as a unit for the first time since October was a promising site. Riddick and Dziennik made great debut for their respected clubs. Charlton who also found form with an incredible performance. Both captains would have enjoyed the performance of their players as both teams head into the English Championships in in less than two weeks. A special thanks to James Livingstone for picking up both the goal judge and dog sitting mantles with incredible style - and supporting our football ref Ivan Campetto as he learned the rules of shinty.
