ESA WOMEN'S TEAM
After the dust settled from the first ever ESA AGM in Spring 2013 Joy Elliott-Bowman was elected as ESA Women's development officer. The women decided that for the first time in History a match should take place at the London Shinty Festival between two English based ladies teams on English soil. That match was a huge success with both teams bringing new and experienced women into the game.
Joy brought her experience as a Scottish Internationalist (2007/8) and part of the 2012 Aberdour Ladies Valerie Fraser Cup Champions to women's shinty in England over the past 4 years. A woman's committee with representatives from Cornwall and other Mixed teams has overseen an expansion in Women's shinty in England with senior ladies matches now taking place every year at the London Shinty Festival and at the English Shinty Championships.
In 2015 the Ladies from both Cornwall and London joined forces to play and train as ESA Women. The Women's team played their first 10-a-side game in Scotland against St Andrews University. Since then they have held women only training sessions, made regular appearances at the Inverness 6s and were runners up at Dropkicks 6s in 2016. 2016 also saw the expansion of ladies shinty with Camborne School of Mines Ladies team playing their first match in Scotland against Ardnamurchan Ladies Camanachd. Along with Ladies development matches at Lowender Peran Festival in November the Ladies calendar is really starting to take shape.
This year the ESA Woman's team team will enter the Marine Harvest Challenge Cup for the first time.
